Greetings California Middle School Families,

It’s almost time to come back to school! I hope everyone had a restful summer and is ready to get back into the routine and structure of school.  The Cal Faculty will waste no time in helping students get acquainted with the rules, procedures, and classroom expectations we have designed fortheir success. The teachers and staff are committed to providing stellar instruction, along with quality athletic and extracurricular opportunities.  This is however, a two way street. We will call upon parents to support their children at home by providing quiet designated study time and constant monitoring of academic progress in tandem with classroom teachers. If concerns begin to arise in academic or social arenas, there needs to be immediate and ongoing communication between school and home. The faculty is available by email, voicemail, and by appointment. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us; we are here to support students.

Cal is on the move! We won a recent award from the California Department of Education, the “Gold Ribbon Award” for our outstanding “Inclusive Practice Model” which has helped make major gains in closing the achievement gap for our students. We’ve purchased three more Chromebook carts, and exponentially expanded our novel sets to support our English program.  The master schedule was revised to increase elective choices to students with the addition of Dance, Choir, and Visual Imagery/Photography. We are re-tooling our mathsupport classes by offering Common Core Math Lab electives to provide strategic instruction to students on the verge of becoming Proficient or Advanced in Mathematics.

Cal welcomes new 7th graders, and we welcome back our 8th graders. We have every intention of providing a fantastic year of learning, exploration in the arts, and challenge on the playing fields.
