Helpful Hints for Ashland Trip
June 10-12, 2016

Packing

Summer days can get quite warm in Ashland, but evenings tend to cool off – bring a jacket or sweater for the outdoor theatre. Think layers! And, just as at school, please wear appropriate clothing.  If you aren’t supposed to wear it to school, don’t bring it to Ashland.  Bring comfortable walking shoes.

Pack light!  We’re only gone 2 ½ days, and you have to carry your own bag to your room.  Don’t forget your toothbrush!  And if you can live without a hair dryer, please leave it at home.

Bathrooms are down the hall from the sleeping rooms, so be sure you wear pajamas you’re willing to be seen in.

Linens are provided, so you do not need a sleeping bag or pillow.  (You are certainly welcome to bring a pillow, however, if you want it on the bus).

Meals

  • Bring a brown bag lunch and snacks for the bus ride and lunch stop on Friday- We will stop at Sundial Park in Redding for lunch around 11:30. If you are unable to bring a lunch, please let Ms. Long know and she will order a cafeteria lunch for you that day.
  • We’ll have breakfast and dinner both days at Southern Oregon University (SOU).  These meals are already paid for.
  • On Saturday we’ll be on our own for lunch, so you should plan to bring money for that day.

**We’ll bring some snacks, but you are also allowed to bring healthy snack foods.  [Please, NO bright orange cheese powder and NO canned drinks (plastic bottles less likely to spill)!] Think: NOT messy, NOT stinky, NOT sticky- and you’re good to go!

Medications/Health Needs

Please make sure to give Ms. Long any information regarding prescription or NON-prescription medication you may be bringing with you along with detailed instructions for its use. A chaperone or teacher will usually keep control of the medications and give them to the student when needed.

Electronics

On the bus – yes.  In our workshops or at the plays – no.  So choose carefully, keeping in mind that you will need to leave any electronics (phones included) in your sleeping rooms while we’re at our workshops and at the plays (except Saturday when we will be eating/shopping in town). We do encourage students to bring their phone as your chaperone will have a phone for emergencies, and you and your parents will be given your chaperone’s cell phone number if you need to contact them. Ms. Long or Mrs. Shelton will let you know when it is appropriate to bring your phones.

Money

Besides the Saturday lunch, there’s nothing else you will have to pay for.  You’ll only need to bring money if you plan to buy souvenirs on Saturday afternoon.

Behavior

It goes without saying that you will be respectful, responsible, and thoughtful throughout this trip.  You’re representing Cal Middle, and we know you’ll want to be at your best. Any discipline issues will be referred to Mrs. Egan and Mr. Zarate for consideration of any end-of-year activities (SunSplash, 8th Grade BBQ/Dance, Promotion Ceremony). In short, be SIC!
